Mary Novakovich
Mary Novakovich is an award-winning travel writer and journalist with more than 35 years of experience.
Her work has appeared in The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Times, The Independent and Wanderlust, and she has contributed reports to the BBC’s From Our Own Correspondent.
She has written extensively about Croatia and the countries of the former Yugoslavia, bringing both professional expertise and a deeply personal connection to the region.
Her acclaimed travelogue, My Family and Other Enemies: Life and Travels in Croatia’s Hinterland, explores Lika, the Croatian region where her Serbian parents were born, through memoir, family history and travel.
The book won the British Guild of Travel Writers’ 2023 Travel Narrative Book of the Year and was shortlisted for the 2023 Edward Stanford Travel Book of the Year.
Mary has also written and contributed to several guidebooks on Croatia and France.
