Meet John Reid

John Reid is a Tenerife-based writer who publishes as John Reid Young. His paternal family has lived in the Canary Islands since the nineteenth century, and his work draws on the archipelago’s history, characters and long connections with Britain.
After many years as an official private guide, John has retired from tour guiding and now provides an engaging way to explore Tenerife through his books and historical writing.
His collections The Skipping Verger and Other Tales and A Shark in the Bath and Other Stories place travellers, islanders, eccentrics and historical figures inside stories spanning different periods of Canarian life. He has also published the Spanish-language El hombre de La Guancha y otras historias and the thriller The Journalist.
Alongside his books, John writes Travel Stories in Tenerife and the Canary Islands, a long-running historical blog.
