Slovenia: the heartbreak cure you’ve been waiting for

Travel writer Sam Baldwin fell in love with Slovenia at just the right time. In this episode, he tells Daniel how Slovenia helped him leave his dream, overcome heartbreak, and embrace a different pace of life.

Sam shares his top highlights for first-time visitors to the country, as well as some very useful context about where it is and why it’s possibly nothing like you’re imagining.

Sam and his brother bought a dilapidated sausage-curing hut in the mountains, fulfilling a long-held dream of buying a cabin in the mountains where the snow falls thick.

In the midst of romantic heartbreak, Sam poured his energies into lovingly restoring this historic hut and embracing traditional Slovenian culture, by getting to know his neighbours (over schnapps) and the wider country, but hiking, foraging, and ever hunting nocturnal door mice in the south.

Sam’s travel memoirs about falling in love with Slovenia are titled Doormice & Moonshine: falling for Slovenia.
