Paul Stafford

Paul Stafford is a guidebook writer based in Birmingham. He’s travelled all over the world on a varied career, spanning Korea, Mexico, Spain, India, the UK and beyond.

Paul’s early-career goal of being an actor took him to South Korea, where his spend a few years immersed in local culture while performing.

Returning home to the UK, his interest in performing morphed into a dabble in screenwriting. And when Paul joined all the dots together, it became clear that his natural passion for travel – facilitated by his performing work overseas – and his writing skills would combine well in the form of travel writing.

He has written for a wide range of publications; more recently focusing on first-hand guidebook research trips, which see him spend extended periods ‘on location’ (to borrow some actors’ lingo) before condensing his up-to-date knowledge into a handy guidebook that accompanies so many other travellers on their trips.

Paul has written about France, India, Spain, the UK and more for Lonely Planet and Rough Guides. Check out Paul’s catalogue of books here.

When he’s not writing, Paul is one half of the alt-rock band PHWOAR.

In episode 20 of the Destination Unlocked podcast, Paul shares his latest insights on Seville, following his latest trip there for his fifth year of writing the annual Lonely Planet guide to Andalucía.
